Nicole Steacy (b. 1989, Pocono Mountains, PA) is an artist and designer based in Brooklyn, NY.
ABOUT NICOLE
Nicole received a BA in Design Art and Social Psychology from Lehigh University (2012). This led to her working in fashion with a celebrity stylist in New York City and a fair trade company in Ghana, before earning a MA in Art Education from New York University (2015). Nicole then taught Visual Art at a public high school in Brooklyn for 8 years. During this time she established Art of Steacy and completed a degree in Interior Design from University of California Los Angeles Extension (2023, Earned with Distinction). She now works as an interior designer with a Brooklyn-based studio developing commercial and residential projects.
With frequent road trips to the Pocono Mountains PA, Princeton NJ, Martha’s Vineyard MA and all about the Northeast — Nicole is continuously collecting candid experiences to use within her work.
ABOUT THE WORK
Painting to express harmonious moments of human connection. Nicole’s pieces are part impressionist exploration, part abstract puzzle. She begins her paintings with layered dashes of color intuitively arranged over a pencil sketch. These dashes then evolve into edge-defined forms. Oscillating between meditative brush strokes and purposeful study, Nicole uses a flattened color-blocking technique to refine these forms until she feels the resolve of balanced color and weight. Brushstroke by brushstroke, human connection - to land, to self, to one other - becomes a distillate of shades and shapes.
|STAY-SEE| is a station wagon concept, backward-looking while forward-moving. It makes space for analog experiences in an increasingly digital world. It applies the wisdom of nostalgic reverie to right now. Recent collections stand to document the hopefulness of honest work and the simple pleasures it provides. The aim of Art of Steacy is to offer a different narrative about what deserves our attention and what we stand to lose if we no longer invest time in contemplation and camaraderie.
